The $25 Card Hunt: 2007 SPx Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. /699

Welcome to the $25 Card Hunt — my daily challenge to find, buy, and share a card under $25 that I think is undervalued, interesting, or just plain cool. This series is for entertainment only, not financial advice, and highlights the fun of collecting without breaking the bank.

Card: 2007 SPx Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. /699
Price: Can be had for <$5 on eBay
Description: Serial-numbered insert celebrating Ripken’s record 2,632 consecutive games

Today’s pickup is a 2007 SPx Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. /699, which can be grabbed for under $5. This set honors Ripken’s incredible achievement of playing 2,632 consecutive games — a streak that broke Lou Gehrig’s record and will likely never be touched again.

Although Cal Ripken’s legendary record was set before I was born, it still is an incredible piece of history. I just read an ESPN article the other day and it really does seem like an unbeatable record. This card is an awesome way to commemorate it, all for less than $5!
