My Trade for a Shohei Ohtani 2018 Allen & Ginter Rookie

Recently, I made a trade on Arena Club that I’m excited to share. After some back-and-forth negotiations, I was able to acquire a Shohei Ohtani 2018 Allen & Ginter rookie card graded PSA 10. Here’s a breakdown of the trade:

What I Received

  • Shohei Ohtani 2018 Allen & Ginter Rookie Card (PSA 10)

I firmly believe Ohtani will go down as the greatest baseball player of all time. Add in the fact that this card is from one of my favorite sets, Allen & Ginter, is a rookie card, and graded PSA 10—it was a must-have for my collection.

What I Gave Up

  • Trevor Lawrence 2021 Prizm Break Rookie Card (PSA 10)
  • Jackson Chourio 2024 Bowman Chrome “1999 Bowman Chrome 25th Anniversary” (Arena Club 9.5)
  • Michael Jordan 1988-1989 Fleer (SGC 8)

Of the three cards I gave up, the biggest piece was the Michael Jordan 1988-1989 Fleer. Trading away a Jordan is never easy — it’s MJ, after all —, but since this wasn’t a rookie card, I felt comfortable making the move. Sometimes, to get a GOAT, you have to give up a GOAT, and in this case, it was worth it.

The Lawrence and Chourio cards were smaller pieces that helped finalize the deal. All in all, I may have given up slightly more value than I got back, but I’m more than happy with the outcome.

Why I’m Happy with the Trade

To get the best card in the deal, you often have to give up slightly more in overall value. Smaller cards, like the Lawrence and Chourio, are harder to sell individually, which makes them great sweeteners in a trade.

In this case, I got a back a PSA 10 rookie of my favorite player from one of my favorite sets. Given Ohtani’s historical two-way dominance and unmatched legacy, I have no plans to move this card anytime soon.

Final Thoughts

This trade highlights what makes Arena Club great: the ability to connect with other collectors and negotiate deals without trading fees. It’s trades like these that keep me excited about the hobby and make me appreciate the platform.

What Do You Think?

What do you think—was this a fair trade, or did I give up too much? Would you have made this deal? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, or share your own best (or worst) trades—I’d love to compare notes!
